A recurring theme surfaces in conversations among ambitious business leaders: the fear that pursuing a bigger vision will cost them the organization they've already built. It shows up as hesitation to set an aggressive target, as a preference for gradual growth over decisive change, or simply as the sense that there isn't enough time or capacity to handle what faster growth would demand. It is a reasonable fear. It is also one of the biggest reasons companies plateau well below their potential.
